Rusty Mills, director on Warner animated series, dies at 49

Credits include 'Animaniacs,' 'Pinky and the Brain'



He was not on the list.

Animator Rusty Mills, best known as a director on Warner Bros. Animation series including “Animaniacs” and “Pinky and the Brain,” died of colon cancer on Dec. 7. He was 49.

Mills won a primetime Emmy in 1996 for a “Pinky and the Brain” Christmas episode. He also won four Daytime Emmys and received eight Emmy nominations.

His other TV credits include “Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain,” “Tiny Toon Adventures,” “Garfield’s Thanksgiving,” “Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman,” “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” “The Replacements,” “Pink Panther & Pals,” “Maya & Miguel,” and “The Plucky Duck Show.” Mills’ most recent credit was 2011 telepic “A Very Pink Christmas.” He also animated on Wild About Safety: Timon and Pumbaa Safety Smart Goes Green!, Wild About Safety: Timon and Pumbaa Safety Smart at Home!, Tiny Toons Spring break, An American Tail, Sport Goofy in Soccermania, Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night, Happily Ever After and Ladybug Jane.

Russell P. Mills was a graduate of California Institute of the Arts.

He is survived by his wife, Andrea, and a son.
