John LoVetere obit

Former NFL player John M. LoVetere, 76 

He was not on the list.


Former professional football standout John Manning LoVetere, 76, of Watertown, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012 at Lebanon's University Medical Center.

Born in Waltham, MA, to the late Samuel Alfred LoVetere and Irene Estelle Devlin LoVetere, Mr. LoVetere had a seven year career in the NFL (1959-1966) as a defensive lineman with the Los Angeles Rams and the New York Giants. He made the probowl once.

A US Army Paratrooper, he served with the 187th Airborne Infantry. He was retired from Yellow Freight and for a time operated Scottie's Restaurant on Highway 70 in Watertown.

Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31 Watertown's at Hunter Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

Survivors include: his wife Deanie "Debbie" LoVetere of Watertown; daughter Denise Jones of Watertown; grandchildren, Amber Vaughn, Kaise Adams, Jonathan Jones, Argus Vanderbilt LoVetere; five great grandchildren; brothers Ken, Greg, Richard, Joe, Ron and Sam LoVetere, Jr.

In addition to his parents, Mr. LoVetere is preceded in death by his son, John Jeffrey LoVetere and a brother, Raymond LoVetere.

A defensive tackle who played seven seasons in the National Football League for the Los Angeles Rams and New York Giants. He played college football at Compton Junior College.

LoVetere lived in Watertown, Tennessee until his death.
