Winston Rekert of Neon Rider fame dies at 63
Veteran Canadian actor lost his three-year battle with cancer on Friday.
He was not on the list.
Canadian actor Winston Rekert — best know for his work in Neon Rider, a drama centred around a ranch for troubled kids — has died at the age of 63.
A Vancouver native, the Gemini Award winner was known for his rugged good looks, sense of humour and — above all — his talent.
He passed away on Friday after a long battle with cancer.
He took to the stage at the age of 12 as an amateur. He left to spend a year as a logger, but returned to acting with a role in the well-known Canadian production Beachcombers.
It was a trip to Toronto in the early 1970s that saw his career soar, landing prominent roles and winning a Gemini Award in 1987 for the spy show Adderly.
Rekert also appeared in the feature Agnes of God with Jane Fonda, Meg Tilly and Anne Bancroft.
He’s survived by his wife Lydia, his two adult sons Carson
and Dylan, and their mother Pat.
