Animator Kevin Donoghue Has Died
He was not on the list.
Kevin Joseph Donoghue, 56, of Hagerstown, Maryland, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Sept. 2, 1959, in New York, N.Y., he was the son of Barbara V. (Daly) Donoghue and the late Dr. John Joseph Donoghue.
Kevin was a 1977 graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country proudly for six years.
Following his service in the Navy, Kevin graduated from Columbus College of Art and Design. He then moved to Valencia, Calif., where he studied at the California Institute for the Arts and later became an instructor in design. During his tenure at CalArts, Kevin contributed to many feature films, including an "An American Tail."
A very gifted artist, Kevin was hired in 1988 by Walt Disney Feature Animation. Kevin had a very robust career at Disney, specializing in character design. He had multiple contributions to various feature animation films. Most notably are the "Rescuers Down Under," "Little Mermaid," "Beauty and the Beast," and "Aladdin," among many other feature films.
Later, Kevin moved to the newly created Pixar in Richmond, Calif., where he worked in animation design for the movie "A Bugs Life."
Following his successful career in animation, Kevin continued to pursue an adventurous life. He enjoyed traveling in Europe and lived in Ireland for several years before returning to Hagerstown.
Kevin was most recently employed by Blue Mountain Woodworks Inc. in Hagerstown.
In addition to his mother, Kevin is survived by 12 brothers and sisters, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. The Rev. George Limmer, pastor emeritus of St. Mary Church, will be the celebrant.
