Herb Braha, Star of Long-Running Musical 'Godspell,' Dies at 69

He was not on the list.

The stage, TV and film actor also founded costume shop Richard the Thread, which supplied material for the 'Iron Man' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchises.

Herb Braha, also known by his stage name Herb Simon, died Feb. 6 of congestive heart failure in Los Angeles. He was 69.

The actor was part of the original cast of the off-Broadway hit Godspell before appearing in roles on film and television. On TV, he was a guest star on such shows as Kojak, Nero Wolfe, The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, Soap, Remington Steele, Happy Days and Charlie’s Angels. In film, he was known for his roles in Child’s Play, The Howling, The Ski Bum and Rock 'n' Roll High.

Most recently, Braha founded the fabric house Richard the Thread, which supplied material for the Pirates of the Caribbean and Iron Man franchises.

Braha was born in Hyannis, Mass., and graduated in 1968 with a BFA in drama from Carnegie-­Mellon University before moving to New York.

He is survived by his brothers Charles and James, two nieces, a nephew and a grandnephew.

A memorial will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at The Skylight Theater in Hollywood, the first stage where Braha performed on the West Coast.
