[R.I.P.] ‘Day of the Dead’ Actor Gary Klar Has Passed Away
He was not on the list.
We’ve learned the sad news this afternoon via the George A. Romero Foundation that Gary Klar, known to horror fans for his role in Day of the Dead, has passed away at the age of 73.
Klar played Steel in Romero’s 1985 classic, one of the film’s memorable human antagonists.
The George A. Romero Foundation wrote over on Facebook, “It is with great sadness that we here at The GARF mark the passing of Gary Klahr. Gary needs no introduction to Romero fans, having so iconically played Private Steele in Day of the Dead, bringing his unique acting abilities to the role, making George A. Romero‘s dialogue so quotable.
“Gary also had memorable turns in other fan favorites such as Trading Places, Big, and Quick Change.
“We hope the love from the Romero family of fans and friends will give strength to the Klahr family at this painful time. We are keeping you all in our thoughts and hearts.”
Gary Howard Klar, born in 1947 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, was an Olympic weightlifter at one point in his life, and he also had a career in both college and professional football.
Klar’s acting credits also include the films A Stranger is Watching, Legal Eagles, Three Men and a Baby, Married to the Mob, Pink Cadillac, Quick Change and Hackers.
