Virginia “Ginger” Lutke

Virginia Lutke passed away peacefully on Monday, October 14, 2013. Virginia, better known as Ginger Dinning was born on March 29th, 1924 in Wichita Oklahoma. The Dinnings were a very musical family of nine children, all of whom started singing harmony in their local church on Sundays. Afterward they would continue to sing some more when they got home. Ginger, her identical twin Jean and older sister Lou, started to win amateur singing contests before the age of ten, and later would perform with their older brother Ace’s orchestra. With little experience but a lot of ambition, The Dinning Sisters were born. From that point forward they knew what they wanted to do. So they left at the age of sixteen and headed to the big city of Chicago and auditioned for a radio show and got the job and a contract with NBC radio. From there they went on to get a recording contract and make several records which did very well. Their biggest hit was the song “Buttons And Bows” which went to number one on the charts Marriages and children eventually demanded the girls attentions. Virginia went on to raise 7 children with her husband Harry Lutke. They lived in the Ridgewood area while raising their children. Later once the kids were grown up they moved to Sussex county in a home designed by Harry. While there Ginger joined a Barber Shop quartet to keep her singing alive. Virginia is survived by her loving family; her husband Harry Lutke of Oakland NJ, her children, Gary Lutke of Lake Lure NC, Steven Lutke of Highland Lakes NJ, Janice Lutke of Oakland NJ, Mark Lutke of West End NC, Joan Hillman and Kevin Lutke of West Milford NJ. She is also survived by her 10 Loving grand children and 10 great grand children. She is predeceased by her son Harry “Buddy” Lutke and grandson Jonathan Lutke. Services will be held at C.C.Van Emburgh Funeral home on Monday October 21, from 2-4 PM And 7-9 PM. With a musical memorial service at 8PM. www.vanemburgh.com
