Frank Konigsberg Dies: Longtime Agent & TV Producer Was 83

He was not on the list.

Frank Konigsberg, a top TV lit agent-turned-prolific TV movie producer, died November 12 of leukemia. He was 83.

Born on March 10, 1933, Konigsberg started his career as an attorney for CBS after graduating from Yale and Yale Law School. He then went to International Famous Agency, where he headed the West Coast office and the TV packaging department. Konigsberg was the packaging agent on The Waltons TV series and represented Bing Crosby and Lorimar, among others.

In 1975, Konigsberg segued to International Creative Management (ICM), formed by combining IFA with Creative Management Associates. There, Konigsberg became the second-largest shareholder behind Marvin Josephson, who had controlled both companies and orchestrated the merger.

Konigsberg later left the agency to became a producer. He produced all of Crosby’s TV specials as well as many TV movies and miniseries for the broadcast networks, HBO and Showtime. On the feature side, Konigsberg executive produced 9 1/2 Weeks and Paris Trout.

In 1983, Konigsberg sold his company to Telepictures and became president of Telepictures Productions. When Telepictures merged with Lorimar three years later, he formed Konigsberg Sanitsky with producer Larry Sanitsky. The two produced several TV movies and miniseries including Titanic, The Tommyknockers and The Last Don miniseries franchise, until 1996. After that, Konigsberg continued to produce through his Konigsberg Company until his death, with TV movies William & Kate, Of Two Minds and Away and Back and the Sarah Jessica Parker feature All Roads Lead to Rome among his last produced credits.

During his career, Konigsberg received nine Emmy Awards for such movie/miniseries as The Guyana Tragedy, The Last Don, Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All, Jesus and Children of the Dust.

Konigsberg is survived by his wife Susanne.
