Character Actor Tony Longo Dies at 53
He was not on the list.
Tony
Longo, a 6-foot-6, 300-pound character actor who filled the screen in such
films as Splash, Mulholland Drive and The Last Boy Scout, has died. He was 53.
Longo
died in his sleep at his home in Marina del Rey, announced his manager, Susan
Ferris. She said she received the news of his death on Sunday.
A
working actor in Hollywood for 30 years, Longo played Mad Dog Smears on the
1984–1991 HBO series 1st & Ten: The Championship, and he had recurring
roles on CBS’ Alice, the syndicated Police Academy: The Series and NBC’s Hell
Town.
Unsurprisingly,
considering his size, the New Jersey native played characters like “Rock” in
Sixteen Candles (1984), and he was “Huge Guy” in Mr. Destiny (1990), “Knuckles”
in Suburban Commando (1991) and “Big Rocko” in The Flintstones in Viva Rock
Vegas (2000).
He
appeared in numerous television series, including The Facts of Life, Laverne
& Shirley, Simon & Simon, Alice, Perfect Strangers, High Tide,
Renegade, Sydney, Las Vegas, Six Feet Under and Monk. His film credits include
Sixteen Candles, Mulholland Drive, Pound Puppies and the Legend of Big Paw, The
Last Boy Scout, the 1994 version of Angels in the Outfield, Eraser, Suburban
Commando with Hulk Hogan and The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas.
Longo
also appeared in Fletch (1985), How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) and The
Cooler (2003). On TV, he had been on the daytime soaps The Young and the
Restless and Days of Our Lives and appeared on such recent primetime shows as
Crossing Jordan, The Mentalist and Shameless.
