Joyce Redman, Oscar-nominated actress, dies aged 96
She was not on the list.
Oscar-nominated Irish actress Joyce Redman has died in Kent aged 96 following a short illness.
Her son, actor Crispin Redman, said she had been ill "for a little while" with pneumonia.
Joyce Redman was nominated for best supporting actress Oscars for her roles alongside Sir Laurence Olivier in the 1965 film version of Othello.
She was also nominated two years previously for 1963's Tom Jones opposite Albert Finney.
Born in Newcastle, the actress grew up in County Mayo and learnt her craft at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
Her roles were mainly on stage during the 1940s before she began appearing on the small screen in the 1950s.
Redman appeared in TV shows including Vanity Fair, Tales of the Unexpected and Ruth Rendell Mysteries.
She also had roles in TV movies The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Seven Dials Mystery and Prime Suspect: Scent of Darkness.
Her last role on screen was the 2001 TV movie Victoria & Albert - which also starred her son - where she played the eldery monarch.
