National Collegiate Basketball Hall Of Fame winner in 2011, Joe Vancisin dies at the age of 98

Former coached at Yale University and The National Collegiate Basketball Hall O Fame winner in 2011, Joe Vancisin has passed away at the age of 98.

Joe was an American former basketball coach and executive and had the opportunity of coaching at Yale University from 1956 to 1975, and later was the executive director of the National Association of Basketball Coaches from 1975 to 1992.

He was a member of the College Basketball Hall of Fame, In 1993, he received the John Bunn Award.

Joe Vancisin lived many years in Branford and attended 60 consecutive NCAA Final Fours (1948-2008) and 63 overall, playing in the 1944 event while at Dartmouth and attending 2013 Final Four in Atlanta at age 90.

Joe was born in Bridgeport on June 4, 1922, Vancisin attended Bassick High School, where he played and lettered in basketball and baseball in 1939 and 1940.

He became an active member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches NABC, served on the board of directors and was the NABC president in 1974, Succeeded Bill Wall as NABC executive director in 1975 and was the recipient of the John Bunn Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993.

Under his leadership in the NABC, he debuted its college all-star game at the NCAA Final Four, elected its first African-American president in Georgetown’s John Thompson (basketball), and adopt.
