Steven Marlo obit

 Actor Steven Marlo Has died

He was not on the list.

Actor. He is best remembered for his portrayal of the homicidal maniac Jamie Forbes in the acclaimed thriller "The Young Captives" (1959). Born Morris Miller, he grew up in poverty being raised in various orphanages. At the age of 18, he served in the Army Air Corps and upon his leave, he enrolled at the Actors Studio in New York City, New York, per the financing of the G.I. Bill and after attaining his degree in theatrical arts, he made his formal debut as a leading man in "The Royal Family" followed by a turn as Paul Newman's official understudy in the original Broadway production of "Picnic". After being discovered by director Fletcher Markle during a stage performance of "The Rose Tattoo", he was so impressed by his dark good looks, professionalism, and articulate voice, that he arranged for him to relocate from New York to California and begin a career in the film and television industry beginning with him being under his supervision in a leading role on an episode of "Studio One" after being christened Steve Marlo per Markle. From there, he would go on to flourish as a prominent character actor, often typecast as either a husband, father, playboy, aristocrat, con-artist, henchmen, villain, gangster, gigolo, retail clerk, businessmen, educator, best friend, sidekick, cowboy, sheriff, guard, policemen, lieutenant, blue-collared guy, chauffeur, waiter, city slicker, politician, soldier, doctor, pawnbroker, and, in his later years, patriarch. He appeared in such motion pictures as "The Deep Six" (1958), "Stakeout on Dope Street" (1958), "The Buccaneer" (1958), "The Slender Thread" (1965), "Terror in the Wax Museum" (1973), "Arnold" (1973), "The Swarm" (1978), and "When Time Ran Out..." (1980). During the advent of television, he flourished as a household name appearing in various guest spots on such syndicated sitcoms as "Mr. Adams and Eve," "The Bob Cumming Show," "Highway Patrol," "Johnny Ringo," "Law of the Plainsman," "Stagecoach West," "Hong Kong," "Wanted: Dead or Alive," "Hennessey," "Surfside 6," "The Lloyd Bridges Show," "The Rifleman," "Gunsmoke," "Branded," "Ben Casey," "Combat!," "The Lucy Show," "Hondo," "Bonanza," "Star Trek," "Death Valley Days," "Mannix," "Mission: Impossible," "Bracken's World," "Garrison's Gorillas," "The F.B.I.," "Sarge," "Monty Nash," "The Streets of San Francisco," "Columbo," "Ironside," "Emergency!," "Falcon Crest," "Quincy, M.E.," and "Dragnet". During his career, he was a member of the Screen Actors Guild, was supportive of the Motion Picture and Television Fund, was a theatrical instructor for the Pasadena Playhouse, was a regular parishioner of the Catholic church, was a staunch Democrat and civil rights activist, was a notable attendee at autograph conventions, toured around the country performing in his own one man show, presided as a chairman for his local charters of the American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity, and he was married for over 30 years to accountant Cindy Marlo with whom he fathered two daughters. In 1990, he retired from acting and settled in Snohomish County, Washington, where he spent the remainder of his life journaling, painting in oils, and was a prominent benefactor for several schools, hospitals, and state parks, until his death from undisclosed causes.
