RUMBOUGH--Stanley M., Jr., a civic leader, successful businessman, and philanthropist passed away peacefully at his home in Palm Beach surrounded by family on September 27, 2017. He was born April 25, 1920 in New York City. Mr. Rumbough was involved in investments and business development for close to seven decades. He was a founder, CEO, or director of more than 40 companies including three New York stock exchange companies. He was a co- founder of Citizens for Eisenhower and served as special assistant to President Eisenhower, 1953-55.

He also was a founding member and director of the Young Presidents Organization and the World Presidents Organization and the founder of the Washington Patrons Foundation. Mr. Rumbough was chairman of the U.S. Committee for the United Nations, a director of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the Foreign Policy Association, the Population Resource Center, and the USLTA Davis Cup Policy Committee. He was the president and director of Planned Parenthood of the Palm Beach Area for almost 20 years until 1995, when he became honorary director. He was also a director of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

He was a life trustee of the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts and International House in New York City. In 1997 he was elected co-chairman of the Palm Beach Civic Association and became chairman in 2005 and in 2009 became chairman emeritus. The Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce recently honored Mr. Rumbough with the "The Pride of Palm Beach" award. He was also fortunate to be a gifted athlete and not only played Wimbledon, Roland Garros, and Forest Hills on the tennis circuit but also tied the amateur course record at that time of 68 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.

A businessman, entrepreneur, distinguished veteran, philanthropist, activist, longtime civic leader, and a member of Colgate-Palmolive. As a businessman and investor, he was a founder, chief executive officer or director of more than 40 companies in the United States, West Indies, and Mexico.

 During WWII, he served as a U.S. Marine Corps fighter pilot and was awarded two DFC's and eight air medals. He is a graduate of Yale University and attended New York University's Graduate School of Business. Mr. Rumbough is survived by his wife of 27 years, Janne Rumbough; his children, Stanley H. Rumbough and Nina Rumbough; his step-children, Kai Janson and Karina Fitz; and 15 grandchildren. A private memorial service and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Palm Beach Civic Association.

He was married first to heiress, socialite and actress Dina Merrill from 1946 to 1966; the couple had three children: Stanley Hutton Rumbough, David Post Rumbough (1950–1973) and Nedenia Colgate Rumbough. He is survived by his second wife, Margaretha Wagstrom Rumbough, and his third wife Janne Herlow Rumbough, a champion dressage rider.
