Bruce Guerin obit

Bruce James Guerin

He was not on the list.

The son of a vaudeville dancer (Alma nee Miller) and an electrical effects engineer (Paul Guerin) at Mack Sennett Studio, Bruce started his career in show business as a Hollywood child actor where he was featured in 13 silent movies for Warner Bros. His best known movie was "Salvation Hunters" in 1925. Bruce started playing piano at age five, and after graduating from North Hollywood High School, he won a degree from the music school at UCLA. Bruce joined the US Army in January 1941 and served as a pianist in the Pearl Harbor USO Orchestra where his performances with Bob Hope, The Andrews Sister, Ray Bolger, and other such stars were broadcast throughout the Pacific. Following the war, Bruce toured the mainland and entertained people from coast to coast. This included a 14-year stint at the Fog Cutter Restaurant on Hollywood Boulevard. He returned to Hawaii in 1969, where he continued to delight people with cheer, music, charm, and his life stories at Hyatt Maui, the Maui Cultural Center, the Hideaway, the Wunderbar, to name a few of his venues. Bruce was survived by his fourth wife, three sons, a daughter, as well as three grandchildren.

Guerin was born in Los Angeles to a family that worked in showbusiness. His mother was a vaudeville performer while his father worked for Mack Sennett. Bruce started acting at age 3 when he appeared in Raoul Walsh's 1922 film Kindred of the Dust. This was followed by 12 more movies, including Brass, Drifting, Revelation, The Parasite and The Salvation Hunters.

During these three years, Bruce Guerin achieved media coverage from newspapers such as The Davenport Democrat and Leader, Modesto Evening News, Hamilton Daily News, Picture Play Magazine and Pharos-Tribune.

After his acting career had ended, he became a pianist. During the Second World War, he appeared in shows in Hawaii alongside celebrities such as Bob Hope and Ray Bolger. After the war ended, he continued to perform in various places.

Bruce Guerin retired in 1996 and died 16 years later, on June 27, 2012. He was 93 years old.

Bruce had four children: Paul Guerin, Mark Wilson, Bruce James Guerin Jr., and Lisa Guerin-Smeltzer. He had three grandchildren: Nick Johnson, Taylor Smeltzer, and Victoria Smeltzer.
